Below is a collection of common IELTS Speaking Part 2 topics and questions. Many of these cue card topics tend to reappear every year, so it is important to prepare them thoroughly for 2026.

Speaking Part 2 is the section you can prepare for most effectively. It gives you a valuable opportunity to demonstrate your fluency, coherence, and ability to speak at length.
Speaking Part 2 是整个口语考试中最容易高效准备的一部分。同时,它也是你展示流利度、连贯性以及持续表达能力的重要机会。


What is Speaking Part 2?

“The Long Turn” | “个人陈述部分”

In this part of the test, you will speak face to face with the examiner. This section usually lasts 3–4 minutes in total.

在这一部分考试中,你需要与考官进行面对面交流。整个环节通常持续 3 到 4 分钟

You will receive a topic card (cue card) along with paper and a pen. You will have 1 minute to prepare, and then you will need to speak for 1–2 minutes.

考试时,你会拿到一张 话题卡(cue card),同时还会提供纸和笔。你将有 1 分钟准备时间,之后需要连续说 1 到 2 分钟

As soon as the card is given to you, begin organizing your ideas. The examiner will tell you when to start speaking. Try to continue speaking for as long as possible within the time limit.
拿到题卡后,你要立刻开始整理思路。考官会告诉你什么时候开始作答。在规定时间内,尽量持续表达,能说多久就尽量说多久。

Most Part 2 topics ask you to describe something personal or something you have experienced in your life. Common topic types include:

IELTS SPEAKING PART 2 TOPICS

Prepare ideas for these topics in advance, but speak naturally in the test.

Art (object)

Describe a piece of art you like.

You should say:

  • what the work of art is
  • when you first saw it
  • what you know about it
  • and explain why you like it.

Book (object)

Describe a book you have recently read. 

You should say:

  • what kind of book it is
  • what it is about
  • what sort of people would enjoy it
  • and explain why you liked it.

Communication (event/occasion)

Describe a piece of advice you recently received.

You should say:

  • when this happened
  • who gave you the advice 
  • what the advice was
  • and explain how you felt about the advice.

Daily Routine (event/occasion)

Describe a time of the day you like.

You should say:

  • what time of day it is
  • what you do at that time
  • who you are usually with
  • and explain why you like it.

Embarrassment (event/occasion)

Describe a time you were embarrassed.

You should say:

  • when it was
  • who you were with
  • what happened
  • and how you coped afterwards

Exercise (activity)

Describe an exercise you know.

You should say:

  • what it is 
  • how it is done
  • when you first tried it
  • what kind of people it is suitable for
  • and explain why you think it is a good exercise.

Family (person)

Describe a member of the your family you get on well with.

You should say:

  • who it is
  • what relationship you have to that person
  • what that person is like
  • what you do together
  • and explain why you get on so well.

Old people (person)

Describe an old person you know.

You should say:

  • who this person is
  • how old he/she is
  • what this person is like
  • and explain why you like this person.

Gift (object)

Describe a gift you recently gave to someone.

You should say:

  • who you gave it to
  • what kind of person he/she is
  • what the gift was
  • what occasion the gift was for 
  • and explain why you chose that gift.

Hobby (activity)

Describe an interesting hobby.

You should say:

  • what it is
  • what kind of people do it
  • how it is done
  • and explain why you think it is interesting.

Relax (activity)

Describe something you do to relax.

You should say:

  • what it is
  • where you do it
  • when you first did it
  • and why you find it relaxing.

Sport (activity)

Describe a sports you would like to learn.

You should say:

  • what it is
  • what equipment is needed for it
  • how you would learn it
  • and explain why you would like to learn this sport.

Internet (object)

Describe a useful website.

You should say:

  • what it is 
  • how often you visit it
  • what kind of site it is
  • what kind of information it offers 
  • and explain why you think it is useful.

Journey (event/occasion)

Describe a journey that didn't go as planned.

You should say:

  • where you were going
  • how you were travelling
  • who you were with
  • what went wrong
  • and explain what you would do differently.

Kindness (person)

Describe a person you know who is kind.

You should say:

  • who it is
  • how you know this person 
  • what sort of person he/she is
  • and explain why you think they are kind.

Respect (person)

Describe someone you respect.

You should say:

  • who the person is
  • how you know about this person
  • what this person does
  • what this person is like
  • and explain why you respect this person.

Language (object)

Describe a language you have learned.

You should say:

  • what was difficult about it

Describe a good law.
